The Sound Studies Group is an international academic team dedicated to sound studies across disciplines, regions, and institutions. From theory to practice, it explores all things related to sound. It also operates a Sound Lab in the School of Design, SUSTech Shenzhen.

Xinyue Xu

Xinyue Xu is a PhD student at the School of Design, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), supervised by Prof. Qiushi Xu. She received her MSc in Sound and Music Computing from Queen Mary University of London, where she worked on practice-based sonification projects, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Arts and Technology from the Beijing Film Academy.

Her research interests lie in sound studies, sonification, soundscape research, and sound-based research methods, with particular attention to how sound can translate data, environmental processes, and cultural phenomena into perceptually meaningful and aesthetically structured listening experiences. Her current research also explores the intersection of sound, design, and intelligent technologies, combining computational approaches with critical humanistic perspectives. Through a research-through-design methodology, she integrates sound design, digital technologies, and interdisciplinary inquiry to investigate the role of sound in environmental perception, cultural knowledge production, and emerging technological systems.
